Per 5 mL Salbutamol 1 mg, bromhexine HCl 2 mg, guaifenesin 50 mg
Indications/Uses
Useful in loosening & liquefying mucous in soothing irritated bronchial mucosa & in making coughs more productive. Clinical relief of cough associated w/ bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema & other bronchopulmonary disorders where bronchospasm, mucus plugging & problems of expectoration co-exist.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL (2 tsp) tid. Childn 6-12 yr 5-10 mL (1-2 tsp) tid <6 yr 5 mL (1 tsp) tid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ pre-existing cardiac tachyarrhythmias & thyrotoxicosis.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ DM, serious CV disorders, HTN, hyperthyroidism & peptic ulcer, history of peptic ulceration. Fine finger tremors, palpitations & GI disturbances.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & vomiting. Bromhexine: Risk of allergic reactions; sever skin reactions (SCARs): Erythema multiforme, SJS. Salbutamol: Tremors. Headache; tachycardia, palpitations; muscle cramps.
Drug Interactions
Increased pressure response w/ MAOI's. Increased efficacy w/ other sympathomimetics. May reduce action w/ β-blocker. Increased risk of hypocalcemia w/ theophylline. Decreased serum w/ digoxin levels.
